For an experiment I did install Matter and Thread
I do run HA as a docker under Unraid so I do need to install all Addons as separate dockers.
I did install Matter docker.
I did buy the HA connect ZBT-2 and programmed it as Thread dongle.
I installed the OTBR docker for thread. Both flashing the ZBT-2 and installing the OTBR docker was not easy. It took me two days trial and error, because I couldn’t find a nice tutorial.
At the and it is up and running.
I did buy a cheap Matter over Wifi color bulb.
Installing was quit easy.
But I run it now for a week and allready 3 times the bulb was not available for Matter.
The solution was easy: switch off power off the bulb for 10 seconds, switch it on and up and running again.
IS this normal behaviour? caused by Matter or caused because it is a cheap Tuya Matter bulb?
It is now only one bulb, but I do not want to switch off and on bulbs in the future to keep things up and running.
I did also buy a cheap Matter over Thread PIR for testing. this one
But I did recognize two not nice items.
One it is triggering once about 2 hours itself. I think because checking availability by thread.
But it measn it is not realy usefull as PIR (I don’t like switching something on for no reason)
Beside this. also this PIR was after a couple a days not available.
I wonder is this because using cheap stuff or because MAtter Thread is still not fully developted?
So far it is disapointing for me.
Anyone else have the same experience?
Your indicated PIR is not Thread, but wifi. So any instability on wifi implemenation on the devices will cause irratic behavior, regardless of being matter.
Tuya is for me known having bad wifi client implementations, reconnecting to wifi multple times during the day.
try finding thread devices and maybe stay away from tuya (which is mentioned on this forum regularly_)
How far away from the ZBT-2 did you place the PIR sensor?
I’ve been using a few Silvercrest/LIDL Matter-over-WiFi smart plugs for a while now, and I don’t have many issues with them. I’m using a similar setup as yours: HA and Matter server both in separate Docker containers.
ABout 5 meters from the PIR device.
I also use a Zigbee Sonoff dongle E. Different channels and about 2 meter from each other
Did you also install an OTBR (Thread)?
Yes, but only in a test setup, using this Docker image to connect to the Thread radio of an SMHUB. That also works, but I don’t have any “real” Thread devices connected so I’m just playing around with it using some ESP32 devices.
I just received my ZBT-2 which I want to try with the regular OTBR Docker image.
