Hi everyone,
I’m running Matter-over-Thread devices with Home Assistant and the OpenThread Border Router add-on via the ZBT-2.
All of this actually works really well, but I’ve been wondering whether these devices could “phone home”. I’d like to isolate them completely from the internet.
I found the “Enable firewall” setting in the OTBR add-on, but I don’t really understand what it does. Does it do this, i.e. does it block traffic going from the Thread network to the outside world?
I have also turned off NAT64. But I’m not sure how to verify this further or how to segregate them properly. I do have a UniFi setup, so doing something there would also be an option, though I’m not sure how. Home Assistant itself should obviously still be able to reach the internet.
Maybe someone can explain whether these devices can phone home in their current state, and if so, how to stop that?
Thanks!
