Issue restoring Home Assistant OS backup after Zigbee migration attempt

Today I tried to migrate from ZHA to Zigbee2MQTT.
For this, I removed the ZHA integration and installed the required Zigbee2MQTT add-ons. Unfortunately, the migration did not work as expected.

Because of this, I attempted to restore a Home Assistant OS backup from ~15 hours earlier.

During the restore process, Home Assistant becomes completely unreachable.
The UI does not come back, and the system appears to be stuck indefinitely.

The only way to recover is to hard power off the server and start it again.
After doing this, Home Assistant boots normally, but the system state is unchanged — it is not restored to the backup, instead it remains on the newer (broken) state.

So in summary:

  • Backup restore is started
  • System becomes unreachable and does not recover
  • Hard reboot brings the system back
  • Backup is not applied at all

Has anyone experienced this before, or has an idea how to properly restore the backup without the system getting stuck?

while “restore”

After hard reset the server:

As i say: No ZHA

So I do have backups that I could use, and I have already downloaded the one I am currently trying to restore.
How can I get my ZHA configuration back?

Try a fresh install of HA with throwaway credentials (they will be overwritten by your backup restore). Then restore the backup from within that install once it is up and running, rather than during the install.

You need to have downloaded the backups before doing this.

Then upload the one you want to the backup page once up and running.

I can try that, but if this also fails, I will be in an even worse state than I am now.
It would be great if the restore would simply work as expected.
I will give it a try.

23:30 … i hope it is working. First start of HAOS needs a long time

it was working! Thx!
