Issues updating home assistant and supervisor

Hi all, so I was running a very old version of home assistant on a Raspberry Pi. The version was probably about 2 or 3 years old. It updated partially but then the supervisor threw a critical error. I tried updating the supervisor and then the supervisor crashed and now most of the pages show up blank and I cannot remotely restart it. I also cannot backup my version. I am not sure what happened to all the backups I had in the past, they were automated at one point but now none are showing. I now realize that part of the issue is that I’m running a 32 bit version. I have a few questions. First, is there a way to get supervisor up and running again? Second, if I do a hard reboot of the raspberry pi will it start back up? My biggest concern is I have no idea where the backups are and since I can’t make another backup I’m very scared that I’ll lose everything I did over several years. Please help.

Clone your entire SDCard to another one for peace of mind. Keep that as your master, never to write to again.

Come to think about it, a fresh SDCard in case the old one is tired may be a good start to the New Year

Showing what version numbers and errors could help. What Pi setup are you running?

Do you have a spare keyboard and HDMI monitor to connect to it in case you have to go back to direct console commands?

Also does you Pi support running the 64 bit HAOS? You didn’t say which Pi you have.

DON’T upgrade.
Load something from scratch and start over. I suggest new hardware and keep your old one running, then manually transfer things over.
Nothing will work from the old version except some automations and scripts.
It’s not worth the hassle.

I ended up getting a raspberry pi 5, installing a fresh version of HAOS and then restoring a backup I made about a week ago. It loads fine, although it appears as though supervisor isn’t running. I don’t know what the latest version of supervisor is supposed to look like but it appears to be missing. Everything seems to be running alright though. I’m not really sure how to proceed.

Supervisor log might offer hints.

Settings/ System/ Logs/ pull down to access the Supervisor log.

Sometimes it might take a little time to update the latest changes off the internet.
