Hi everyone!
I recently started my Home Assistant journey, and things have been going mostly smoothly so far.
I picked up some Kasa KP125M plugs to monitor the energy usage and cost of my window AC units. The setup and HA integration went pretty well initially. For a while, I could view energy usage both in the Kasa app and on my Home Assistant dashboard.
However, recently the Kasa app started showing all the plugs as “Disconnected”, even though they still appear as active on my network. To troubleshoot, I removed and re-added one of the sensors in HA—but now that sensor says “Unavailable” and no longer reports energy usage. Strangely, the plug I didn’t touch (also shown as disconnected in the app) is still reporting usage just fine in Home Assistant.
I’ve configured the peak/offpeak/midday rates within the kasa app and set the energy dashboard to display Todays consumption and to use an entity tracking total cost to the same plugs Todays consumption. Has anyone tried this approach and can confirm its accuracy? Or is there a more preferred way of dealing with rate tariffs?
So I have a few questions:
Why would the Kasa app suddenly stop connecting to the plugs, even though they are online and appear to still be working with HA?This issue ended up being a DNS issue on my Smart Home Network and has now been resolved.
2.Do I need to factory reset and reconnect each plug to restore full functionality? All plugs are now connecting as expected- I was hoping to use the Kasa app’s built-in peak/off-peak cost tracking instead of setting up separate sensors/helpers in HA for each device. Has anyone had success with this approach, or is there a better/easier way to track energy costs?
