Yes, the idiot user is back with new tales of woe. I thought I would use the ‘hide area’ from my Dashboard. However, I soon discovered that hiding the zone would stop me from controlling that one device I need to manage. Sooo, I went back to ‘Un-hide area’ as I thought that would put it back under my MAIN dashboard. However, now I get a weird icon under the cursor if I try to manipulate that device, and obviously nothing happens.I am so disappointed that one little user error would cause my HA satisfaction level to absolute zero. Is there any way to recover from this stupidity, or do I need to try out Homey ecosystem?
P.S. I will NEVER watch HA ‘how-to’ videos on YT ever again, as I am too stupid to use this platform. Why am I the only person dumb enough to think he can ‘edit’ the default HA configuration??
Yes,
I do keep backups, though not sure how far to go back. Also, I notice that the particular device is a TP-Link switch that stopped working. It’s worked for years. Is it possible that a HA recent update killed it? Using the physical button works fine.
Can you take a deep breath, lose the hyperbole, and tell us what you actually did, from where, and how? Be specific and try to keep your terms consistent. Areas and zones are not the same thing and there’s many ways to ‘hide’ something.
That’s part of the problem, Rick. I really don’t know what all the parts of HA are called technically. All I know is that sometime in the last week, my HA went to what I would call incomplete. Unfortunately, HA did an upgrade and I performed a few operations that I watched on a YT video. So, I really don’t know what caused the errors. All I can say is, for now, every TP Link device I have (mostly switches and power strips) have completely stopped working. I just wish I knew how far back to go in my backups to pick a restore date. Sorry, I’m just not a HA PhD like everyone on this forum. Probably a good reason that I don’t go here more often, as I just can’t understand the terms you all throw around. Is there a particular part of the documentation that you can point me to, such that I might learn what every little term means in regard to HA?
Other than that, I now see why some folks prefer a more subtle platform, especially folks who are technically illiterate like myself.
Sorry that I gave such inappropriate info as to my problems.
Thanks, EndUser, for that feedback. Not sure why all of mine died. I wish I knew what device makers are a bit more ‘solid’ in their support of HA. It’s quite obvious not all are what they promise to be.
Don’t feel sorry. This forum IS a help desk. It is a voluntary help desk, not one managed by anyone official at HA, but most users, if they can, want to help.
And I want to help, but without knowing what you have tried and what steps you have taken to try and fix it, I can’t. Hence those questions. But hey if it too much trouble for you to answer them that’s OK with me.
