I spent last weekend getting HA all set up and looking pretty. All my Kasa devices worked including switches, outlets, and plugs. Last night I noticed that there was a firmware update to the KP200 outlets (I have four of them). I did the update and now I can’t get the outlets to behave in HA (though they still work fine in the Kasa app and with Alexa). I tried deleting them but whenever I rediscover them it asks me for authentication which never works, even with the right credentials.
Again, the outlets work fine with other apps so I know they are okay. I have Kasa smart plugs (two) and they are playing nicely with HA but didn’t have that firmware update.
I tried using AI to help. About 8 hours later, having tried everything, I’m at a loss. I can fall back to using non-HA apps, but I really would prefer to have everything in one place in my dashboard. Any ideas?
Had the same problem with well-established HA connections/automations on KP200 outlets. Same as you, updated firmware and they all became unavailable in HA (persisting after reboots, etc.).
I ended up solving it by enabling “Third-Party Compatibility” in the Kasa app (Me --> Settings --> Third-Party Compatibility --> Enable) and almost immediately they started reconnecting in HA.
I’m new to HA and immediately ran into this issue with 1 out of my 3 other KP200 outlets. Only one (for some reason) had self updated to the new 1.1.0 firmware. The others were on 1.0.1 and were added to HA without issue.
I have all my smart IOT’s on their own SSID network separate, not a VLAN. So my separate SSID devices can generally see each other. When I started setting up my HA I had it hardwired to my main router. Adding all other devices with no issues, until I got to that one KP200 with the 1.1.0 firmware and it asked for my TPlink credentials.
Ultimately I discovered my HA machine needed to be on the exact same SSID network as the outlet was on. I had planned to keep my HA hardwired but now will have to have it on the wifi SSID that the IOT’s are on. Certainly not a “fix” but a solution.
