Kwikset 910 lock added to Z-Wave, but not recognized as lock

I recently migrated from a DIY HA VM setup > HA Green… almost all is good except having fits with my dead bolt lock (Kwikset 910). I was working on the VM setup, but I couldn’t get it working on the HA Green setup.

I’ve added it to the OOTB Z-Wave integration & after a reboot, the make & model is recognized (see image below), but it isn’t seen as a lock. When I re-interview it, it fails… not seeing anything in the logs that stands out as to what the issue could be.

I found the lock in the OpenZWave list of devices, but unsure how to get HA to see it as a lock to add to the rest of my automation like I had previously.

Ideas/tips?

Look at devices stats

Does it have good comms with controller?

Not sure… what would I be looking for?

When I posted he question earlier, it was good and healthy, but now it shows the Node status is dead. But it responds to pings…

commands dropped rx/tx

Since device is “dead” it likely has communication issue you need to look into

I went through this recently with my Kwikset 918. I am no expert but it seems that these locks have to be in very close proximity to your HA server to properly interview/configure. I was using an old Nortek stick with dual Z-wave and Zigbee so I installed a Zooz 800 and it seems I have more success. I say seems because I am still learning and have my own battles to figure out in this instance…
