I recently picked up a Kwikset Halo Select Plus and I’m planning to run it over Matter instead of Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi gives the full Kwikset feature set (auto-unlock, notifications, door ajar, etc.), but it also puts the lock directly on my network and relies on cloud services, which doesn’t fit well with my segmented, security-focused setup.
Matter seems like the better fit here—local control, clean integration with Home Assistant and Apple Home, and no cloud dependency. I’m fine giving up some vendor-specific features, especially with how far HA has come (2026.4 is getting close to “good enough” for most of this without needing Keymaster).
My question:
Has anyone set this lock up via Matter through Apple Home first (for Home Key), and then shared it into Home Assistant? Any caveats or gotchas with that flow?
WAF goal is 5/5 jalapeños
