LAICA BLE – Local Bluetooth integration for LAICA smart scales

Hi everyone,

I’ve released the first stable version of LAICA BLE, a custom Home Assistant integration for LAICA smart body-composition scales that use the YoHealth BLE advertising protocol.

The integration was developed and directly tested with a LAICA PS7002 Smart scale.

Main features

  • Fully local operation
  • No cloud service required
  • No LAICA app required for normal measurements
  • Passive Bluetooth Low Energy monitoring
  • Automatic discovery in Home Assistant
  • Installation through HACS as a custom repository
  • Body-composition metrics calculated locally in Home Assistant
  • Support for both complete measurements and weight-only measurements
  • Editable user profile from the Home Assistant UI
  • Home Assistant diagnostics support
  • English and Italian translations

Supported measurements

With a complete barefoot measurement, the integration exposes:

  • Body weight
  • BMI
  • Body fat
  • Body water
  • Muscle mass
  • Bone mass
  • Visceral fat
  • Basal metabolic rate
  • Body age
  • Impedance

Impedance is exposed as a diagnostic entity.

Body age is available but disabled by default.

If the scale cannot perform bioimpedance analysis — for example when weighing while wearing slippers or shoes — the integration can still detect the stable weight measurement and updates only the body weight, without overwriting or recalculating the previous body-composition values.

How it works

The scale broadcasts measurements as non-connectable BLE advertisements.

For the PS7002, the integration recognizes the YoHealth manufacturer data, validates the frame and checksum, and distinguishes between:

  • measurement in progress;
  • stable weight-only measurement;
  • final body-composition measurement.

A stable weight-only frame is briefly held to allow a complete body-composition frame to arrive. This avoids duplicate Home Assistant updates during a normal barefoot measurement.

All body-composition calculations are performed locally.

Installation

HACS

  1. Open HACS

  2. Go to Integrations

  3. Open the menu in the top-right corner

  4. Select Custom repositories

  5. Add:

    https://github.com/piggei/home-assistant-laica-ble

  6. Select Integration as the repository type

  7. Install LAICA BLE

  8. Restart Home Assistant

After installation, activate the scale once.

Home Assistant should automatically discover it and offer to add the device.

During setup you will be asked for:

  • sex
  • date of birth
  • height
  • scale model

These values are used only for the body-composition algorithm and can be changed later from the integration configuration.

Important limitation: one profile per scale entry

The scale does not transmit the identity of the person using it.

Person selection exists only in the original companion app and is not part of the BLE measurement protocol.

For this reason, each Home Assistant configuration entry corresponds to one configured user profile.

The weight itself is valid regardless of who uses the scale, but the calculated body-composition values belong to the configured profile.

Compatibility

The integration has been directly validated with:

  • LAICA PS7002 Smart

The underlying protocol appears to be part of the wider YoHealth ecosystem, so other LAICA or YoHealth-compatible models may also use a similar advertising format.

However, I do not want to claim compatibility without real captures and validation.

If you own another LAICA smart scale and would like to help test it, contributions are very welcome.

Repositories

Technical research, BLE protocol documentation, reverse engineering and compatibility work:

Please use the Home Assistant repository for integration bugs.

For:

  • support for additional scale models;
  • BLE captures;
  • protocol analysis;
  • measurement validation;
  • compatibility research;

please use the technical research repository instead.

Current release

v0.1.0

This is the first stable release after testing the integration with real measurements, including both complete body-composition measurements and weight-only measurements without electrode contact.

Feedback and test results from other LAICA scale owners would be very useful, especially for identifying additional models using the same or a compatible YoHealth BLE protocol.
