LED strip fully addressable - supply question

Hi All

Ive been trying to do this project for over 12 months and Im just as confused now as I was when I began.

The project
I have stairs in my house. Simply put I would like to run an LED Neon flex strip up the stairwell (up and turn 90deg) 5 meters is fine. Ultimately I like the following effect that white light has and thats the end goal with some late night red when walking down the stairs.

I have come to the conclusion that the strip I am looking for maybe something similar to this:

However I am confused about what controller to use esp32 and WLED or purchased controller, what will work what want in home assistant.

If anyone has done this or something similar and could please give some advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Peter, do you want to control this LED strip over WiFi; are you mainly controlling your wireless devices over WiFi already?

Going for the DIY-route with ESP and WLED is an option.

If you don't want to build your own controller, I hear quinled makes some pretty decent premade ones. Haven't used them myself, but I heard good things about his stuff.

The thing is:

  • do they want to build the controller themselves
  • is WiFi the what they will be using/prefer

not concerned about building myself or purchase, however if the purchased one looks more appealing (near power point on hallway wall) I will be far better off as far as the challenging wife issue. :slight_smile:
