The theme for 2022 is streamlining. One place that bugs me in that regard is the Configuration menu. From my perspective:
- Items are grouped together, that don’t necessarily belong together
- Items are not grouped together, that are related
- Headline wording is inconsistent
- Subline wording is inconsistent and not symmetric
I would like to propose the following principles:
- Headline is descriptive for the bucket and doesn’t try to simply list the content (i.e. take it up one level). It should be short, i.e. one word
- Subline is active voice of what the user can do
- Order along user journey
- Don’t have the term “Home Assistant” all over the place
This could mean:
-
Integrations
Connect devices and services inside your home -
People
Manage tracking of people in zones -
Blueprints
Manage templates for automations and scripting -
Automations
Bring your home to life -
Scripting
Develop recurring procedures and scenes -
Dashboards
Create customized views of cards to interact with your home -
Settings
Manage general settings -
Supervisor
Manage your system
In this proposal:
- Automations would include Tags, which essentially trigger automations.
- Scripting would include Scenes and Helpers
- People would not include Users, as Users are a technical access to the system and not something in the system
- Settings would include the Users and also Cloud
