Lifx Lights - Nuclear Launch Scene

Hey,

OK so i live in a part of town that requires some home assistant deterrence. Often times people come checking on cars to see if they are unlocked - some have had windows broken.

I currently have a speaker setup in my garage (sadly car cant be used in the garage) that says “Alarm Activated” and the house lights turn on and the ones right above the garage door are lifx lights that turn red while the phrase “Alarm Activated” repeats 10 times with a 5 second wait.

What i want to have happen is for the red lights to pulse / fade as if a nuclear bomb warning light was going off … lol

But i’m not even sure what to search as i’m pretty new to HA in what i do with it …

ANy thoughts or suggestions? Pulsing red light etc? I also found that the lifx lights have a delay from when they are powered on to when they can have “color” activated since they need to eastblish a wifi connection. Not sure if there is a way around that?

Smart lights aren’t meant to have the power turned off. The idea is that you leave them powered up and simply turn them off via an automation or other ‘smart’ control.

You could create a script that sends the corresponding colour and light transitions, then call that script.

Thank you, this gives me a great place to start

Check the transition parameter of the light.toggle service.

Will do. It turns out the lights above the garage that have my RGB lights are also controlled by a bunch of pot lights on the rest of the house. So i can’t turn those off without killing the power to the RGB lights. It turns out the delay has to be about 5 seconds before they connect to wifi then i can change the color - so not so bad…

Home Assistant has effects for LIFX bulbs: take a look at lifx.effect_pulse. Set the bulbs to the desired start color and then use lifx.effect_pulse to make them change color a certain amount of times.

Play with the mode to see which one you like best. I suspect either breathe or strobe will work for this. Then adjust period and cycles until the effect runs for the right amount of time with the appropriate amount of drama.

The effect can target either a single bulb or multiple bulbs in a single call. If you target multiple bulbs, they should all pulse at the same time but that’s not guaranteed because it depends on network saturation and bulb responses.
