Is there a way to check how/why a light turned on through Home Assistant. This one came on when no one was up or awake and then went off about an hour and a half later. The second light seems like it’s having seizures and turning on & off in quick succession.
Yes. Go to the logbook and check the context (e.g. “turned on by automation…”). If there is none then it happened outside of home assistant.
Would this be an example of happening outside of HA?
When you say that - would it log in a specific way inside of HA if it were triggered in any way? e.g a scene, automation, script, or smar switch that is in HA?
Correct. You would see if an automation or script turned it on. Or if a user turned it on from the HA dashboard.
We were asleep when it was (repeatedly) turning on & off. If Home Assistant wasn’t the culprit do you have any other ideas?
alexa hunches
Are you concurrently running any other smart home systems? Or does the switch have its own hub? Maybe there is some other process outside of HA that has its own automations running.
Interestingly, several of your timestamps are exactly 10 seconds apart. That seems suspect that it is some kind of automation running somewhere. I don’t think this is happening within HA because as others have said it does not show a script or automation. But out of curiosity, do you have other stuff happening in your log at the same times?
We have alexas but nothing is set up for hunches.
No there aren’t any other smart home systems or hubs. I checked the Kasa app and no automations or other triggers.
I went back to the log book but it didn’t pull any logs for thr 8th (don’t know how long that info is retained. I tried to filter by that decice and that entity as well as no device or entity.
Is there any chance it couod be due to power fluctuations or surges?
Alexa hunches is on by default. Make sure it’s turned off.
I yell at Alexa daily
Lately she has been listening less & less. I can’t wait until there are better (local) options that can do it all.
No hunches for this problem but a good thought.
It doesn’t seem like HA is the culprit. But as a test, you could temporarily remove the light from HA and see if it is still turning on and off. That would at least tell you if the problem is within HA or elsewhere.
I’m still skeptical that you have the settings → hunches → cog wheel → suggest hunches option on. In the past, this setting was tied to creating hunches that you couldn’t see and would just run in the background. This may have changed as the Alexa app has evolved over the past 4 years with hunches.
Anyways, if you’re positive this isn’t the culprit, what integration provides the Foyer Light Switch?
I just double checked it & it is off/disabled.
The switch itself is a TP Link Kasa 3 way switch - no automations or reasons it would be triggering from there either.
Other then that HA Automation to turn it on just before sunset & turn it off at 10:00 PM.
It hasn’t been doing it over the past 3 days so maybe Hunches was on & I turned it off when I was in there checking for any listed hunches the 1st time. If that was the culprit thanks for the suggestion & maybe that was the solution.
I’ll mark that as the solution unless I found out otherwise. Thanks again.
