Lights non-responsive after being away

Hi All,

I’m seeing strange behavior with a few of my zigbee lights. When I leave in the morning, I switch all lights off from the Home Assistant app. They turn off correctly, but about 15 minutes later some lights turn themselves back on, usually at 1% brightness.

Home Assistant still shows them as off, even though they are physically on. The timeline: first the off-command, then—15 minutes later—a brightness update without anything triggering it. I don’t have any automation or scene that would cause this.

“turned on → some weird reason the lights turn on without anyone in the house
8:49:29 AM - 11 hours ago
turned off triggered by action Light: Turn off → me turning off the lights
8:33:41 AM - 12 hours ago - Supradyn”

Another odd symptom: once the lights are in this state, they stop reacting to automations altogether. My motion-based automations won’t switch them anymore. I have to manually toggle them in the app (or change brightness) before everything works again. After a few hours it feels like they enter some kind of unresponsive state until I “wake” them up.

Has anyone seen this before or knows what to look for? I’m kinda new to HA so I don’t know what other info I should post in this topic.

I’ve had similar issues since the summer, couldn’t resolve it. This fall I switched from ZHA to Z2M, and recently also changed the ZHA coordinator.

Long story to short, after all of that I found the problem bulbs acting up again, which required a thorough factory reset. Not just deleted and re-integrated, but factory reset. After that, a week or so later another bulb acted up. So I also factory reset a few more bulbs & plugs that were local routers.

I’m not sure I’m done yet, I haven’t reset all my ZHA devices - winter conditions give me pause. But I’m quite confident those issues I used to have are no longer.

At about 2 years now with HA, I appreciate what you’re dealing with. I’m no HA mentor. Your issues might be different - I just offer my own experience for consideration.
