Linear GD00Z-4 Garage Door Opener - No Control Entities After Pairing

Linear GD00Z-4 Garage Door Opener - No Control Entities After Pairing

Device Information:

  • Go Control Model: NORTEK S&C LLC MODEL: GD00Z-4
  • Z-Wave USB Device: /dev/serial/by-id/usb-0658_0200-if00
  • Controller: Zooz 700 Series USB Stick
  • Z-Wave Driver Version: 15.6.0
  • Z-Wave JS Version: 0.16.0

Issue:
I successfully migrated my Linear GD00Z-4 garage door opener from SmartThings to Home Assistant. The device pairs with my Zooz 700 controller without errors, but I’m not seeing any entities for actually opening or closing the garage door. The device shows as connected and ready, but no control entities are created.

What I’ve Tried:

Expected Behavior:
I should see entities like cover.garage_door or similar that allow me to open/close the garage door through Home Assistant, similar to how it worked in SmartThings. This post seems to say theirs works: Nortek/GoControl GD00Z-4 quit working after 2021.10.4 Update and ZwaveJS Update

Current Status:
The device appears in Z-Wave JS as connected and ready, but no actionable entities are created for garage door control.

Questions:

  1. Is this a known issue with the GD00Z-4 and Z-Wave JS 0.16.0?
  2. Do I need to perform a secure inclusion for the control entities to appear?
  3. Are there any specific configuration steps required after pairing?
  4. Should I try excluding and re-including with different security settings?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. The device worked perfectly with SmartThings, so I know the hardware is functional.

Additional Context:
Using Home Assistant with Z-Wave JS integration (not the deprecated Z-Wave integration). All other Z-Wave devices migrated successfully with full functionality.

It was not paired correctly, given the “Highest security” is shown as “None”. GDOs require secure inclusion, whether S0 or S2. If it failed secure inclusion you should have been given a warning about it.

You’ll have to exclude it and try again, you cannot change the security level after inclusion. Make sure your network is healthy to avoid errors during security bootstrapping: https://zwave-js.github.io/zwave-js/#/troubleshooting/first-steps

Also I seem to recall there were some Linear GDOs that claimed to support Security 2 but actually do not. In that case ZJS won’t include it properly. You could try forcing Legacy (S0) inclusion instead.

Thank you I will try that.

@freshcoast Thank you I am now connected. This is what I did:

  1. I excluded the GD0
  2. Then reset my GD0 long press button for 5 seconds hear the beep
  3. Wait ~1 min
  4. Press the button 5 times
  5. Wait ~1 min
  6. Went to add device. Clicked advanced. Then clicked legacy secure (as seen in screen shot)
  7. Opened the garage with existing system to recognize if it is open or not.
  8. Then closed garage with GD0.

Glad you got it working. I had lots of trouble getting one (or maybe two) of my Linear/GoControl door opener controls to pair right. I was about to lose my mind. I included/excluded several times on them, but I finally got all 3 to pair right. After reading this, it sounds like it is common with this device.
