Hi all — I put together a HACS integration for local control of inverter pool heat pumps that already speak Modbus RTU on RS-485 (same port as the Aqua Temp WiFi module). No cloud.
My MIDA Cosma heatpump (PHNIX PC1002 board) is verified; other heat pumps are present too but not live-tested yet. AquaTemp app continues to work alongside. There is a nice animated custom card for it too.
If your pool heat pump isn’t supported yet or not fully working, a raw USB RS-485 dump (see the README) should be enough for me to add it — share it and open a feature request.
Well this looks very interesting. Many thanks for sharing!
I have a Heat Performer heatpump from LPW (rebranded Mitsubishi I guess) which is using the AquaTemp wifi module. This also means I am fully depending on the cloud. Local access is indeed really welcome.
Could you just explain a little bit more practical how you exactly connected the USR-DR164 to the heatpump itself? You just connect it to the existing port where the AquaTemp wifi module is connected to? And you just remove the AquaTemp module? That’s it? But I see you mentioned that the AquaTemp app continues to work alongside?
You placed it inside the heat pump? No issues for the wifi signal (as now the AquaTemp module is placed magnetically outside the heatpump)?
Do you have any photos how you connected it at your installation? That would be really helpfull.
Yep just the same pins. I wanted the wifi app to continue working for now, so just connected it all to the wifi module, currently just with a cover over it. Here’s a photo to give you a better idea with both DR164 and the USB logger attached. USB bus dump is usually needed to map a new pump, they are cheap. Later I will add the installation inside the housing with the antenna sticking out via a spare rubber sealed hole in the case and wire it in line with the bus.
So in that case, I also should be able to connect the DR164 directly (in parallel) to the connector on the main board of the heat pump (instead of to the connector on the aquatemp module)? So I mean the connector on the main board of the heatpump where the aquatemp wifi module is connected to. Because in that case I can pull a new cable directly from the connector on the heatpump to a nearby garden ched and place the DR164 inside the ched. The heatpump has designated cable openings which is also used by the cable of the aquatemp module, so I can easily add a new cable there. In that case I don’t need to open the aquatemp module as it is placed outside.
Yes, that’s what I’m planning on doing also. Just ordered some connectors so i can put it inline without having to modify the heatpump at all. The photo was just for debugging and getting it running. Should be able to share a photo soon.
