Local monitoring for offline Enphase system (18kW PV / 25kWh Battery) – Home Assistant Green?

Hi all,

I am new to this group, so please excuse me if this topic has already been discussed.

I own an Enphase system with 18 kW of solar panels and 25 kWh of battery storage, installed about two years ago. Recently, I’ve had issues with remote updates: three times now, Enphase pushed automatic updates that flipped my grid export settings, causing my batteries to discharge into the grid during high-demand periods. This forced me to drain my storage completely and buy power back from the utility company at almost 10x the export rate.

To stop this, I disconnected my Enphase Combiner/Gateway from the internet to block remote updates. While this fixed the unwanted profile changes, I lost all visibility into my system’s performance on the app.

I was recommended to use a standalone local controller (like a Home Assistant “Green” box) to read data and monitor the system locally over my LAN without reconnecting to Enphase servers.

Questions:

  1. Is local data monitoring fully doable offline using a Home Assistant Green box?
  2. Will I still be able to track individual panel production and battery status locally?
  3. Does anyone have experience running an Enphase battery system completely offline long-term?

Thanks for your advice and suggestions!

I have no home Assistant Green Box, so can’t comment to the Green box specifics. I run HA in a docker container, in my case on a Synology NAS. The core HA Enphase Envoy integration, and several other custom integrations for specific purposes use local communication to the Enphase IQ Gateway. Using docker is a simple way to test before your final decision. Use docker on a pc and run a HA container to see what is happening,

I know of some people, including myself, that ran with the IQ Gateway disconnected from the network for couple of days and it worked without issues. Aggregated and individual panel production data I have no experience with sustained long time disconnected IQ Gateway. As the IQ Gateway sends data back to the Enphase cloud, it will pile up. No idea if that data will cause memory depletion or just get dropped.

I have no batteries, so no experience to share.

Not sure for Enphase connectivity to HA. If that would not be a problem I have designed sunSale integration for exactly this problem. Tho now it is tested only on Solis inverters. But integration was build with target to cover different inverter drivers. It also consumes electricity prices and solar forecasts from other integrations, not tested on nordpool.
