Hello, first of all sorry if this question has been posted elsewhere but I searched for it and couldn’t find it, second thanks in advance for any help provided. I’m planning on making my setup not dependant on any outside services like ewelink as an example, what is the best hardware to achieve that, any links or pointers in the right direction for me to get started are welcome. Thank you again.
you might have to list your needs.
There are too many options otherwise.
Sure sorry, I now have a working setup that uses sonoff switches 5 of them, a light wall mounted switch and a tuya (smartlife) smart plug, the thing is that all of them require Internet connection and therefor if it fails I’m back to a ‘dumb’ system :), besides I’m planning on installing security cameras and window sensors and that I really didn’t want to be dependent on Internet connection to be able to control or check. I had no problem with sonoff but the tuya plug is turning to be a nightmare, I keep loosing connection to the point I have given up on it and just use it manually or on its own app.
ok, newer sonoff can be made local-only by design, older ones can usually be made local-only with tasmota firmwares and alot of the the tuya devices can be made local-only too.
I have no clues on security cameras and I the window sensors I use are part of my heating system (Homematic IP), so probably not that interesting.
I can give you an advice with the window sensors and that is to make sure that they both report an opening of the window as well as a closing, not all does that and it limits the options of automations quite a bit.
Regarding security cameras. If you are thinking about WiFi cameras, bear in mind that POE is more reliable. If you aim to integrate them into HA, study carefully the recommended types. Cameras are much dependent on stock firmware, and it is rare to find suitable third party cloud free solution. What I do in this case, I disable internet connection for some nodes such as cameras in the router. Some routers allow that.
Thank you for the input I’ve been a bit busy and had no time to pick this up. I’ll have that in consideration when I pick the sensors. Thanks.
Thank you, I’m not sure my router can do that but I’ll check it out. My time has been a little tight and I had no time to check on this topic but as soon as I have time I’ll check it out and take that in consideration. Thanks.
