Hi all.
I have worked on a small project for a year now.
I was tired of Google Nest displays and wanted something local without big tech is tracking my every move.
I have created a smart display that is as local as possible.
I did not want to use an old tablet that is not receiving security updates or any Google, Amazon, etc. hardware.
The result is a touch display powered by a Raspberry Pi.
But it is not only a webpage showing HA. It also have Snapcast for multi room audio with Music Assistant. With some automation with presence sensors the music follows me around the house and turns down in the rooms I am not in.
I also use MPD for announcements with my presence detection. So if I set a timer in the kitchen and go to the office I get the announcement in the office when the timer is up. So all audio from the displays follows me.
I have also installed a microphone for the Assistant. I am not a big fan of wake words and I rarely talk to my home. So I have not installed a wake word but it should be possible to do.
I can also control the display brightness with automations so I have a display installed in the bedroom.
I have 5 displays now around the house and they automatically gets updated with the SSH integration (HACS).
Next step is working on some sort of casing for the solution.
What do you think about this project and do you have ideas for improvements?
