I'm building an outdoor Garden Train layout and wish to place inexpensive USB LED lights in my buildings. Recently acquired a USB 1 to Many hub that has 6 spotlights. I was thinking of daisy changing the power via a power adapter (AC 5v) and turning the on and off via power plug. The I found on AliExpress the Tuya -TS0002 by _TZ3000_h1ipgkwn a 2 female port USB and with 1 male plug. This device pairs with ZHA or deconz, but interactions are bugging and not reliable. My question is, can anyone recommend a Smart Power Plug solution for USB 5v and on/off controls? Power readings would be a perk too . If this solution works, I'd repeat and expand for a large German Christmas Market train display with many Lemax and G Scale buildings. Thanks in advance.
Do you mean something like this? I have three wifi ones that work well, though pairing requires the Sonoff app, which I'm not fond off. This one is Zigbee, it is compatible so they may be better.
I have one on order, hopefully its not as buggy the aliexpress Tuya one. Thanks
I grabbed a 3-pack of those (with three outlets per plug) last year (for about 20 CAD)
I used them to control some Dumb LED ribbons I made into conical trees for Christmas. My mesh extends into my Garden with repeaters (third-reality plugs) that are in waterproof enclosures.
The Tuya Zigbee USB switches worked like a charm. I'm using Z2M, not ZHA
I have a few Zigbee ones of these. Solid performance, and they are routers for the mesh network.
The other solution is to get a powered USB hub if you have more than one device that you want to connect and use a smart plug to control its power state for all of them that are gonna be powered on and off at the same time.
If you wanna go matter over wifi
