Hi, Wondering if anyone can suggest a good way to go about the below, if its even possible as I can’t find a good way to do it at this point.
I have an Icecast live audio stream running at home. To this point I have been accessing it via Emby. This is ok but the hassle of opening and navigating to it means I don’t use it in the car etc.
I was thinking what would be really great is to have a button or mini player on my home assistant dashboard where I can one click play on the device I am accessing from (phone for instance)
I have found various ways to do this with the limitation being the stream won’t be accessible off-LAN unless I open it externally which I would rather not do. I could also use a VPN which I also don’t want to do. The main goal is for HA to access the stream and play it, should be accessible anywhere since my HA is already externally accessible much like Emby. Benefit would be that I could access much easier especially via Android Auto and dashboard tablets etc.
Is this possible or should I be looking somewhere else such as symphonium which I use aswell.
Hi Nick thanks for the suggestion. This is the sort of thing I am looking for but unfortunately, I think I would run into the same limitations. HA probably isnt really the thing I should be using for this task.
This is installed on a system which runs Proxmox VE (a bare metal hypervisor, to run virtual machines) HA aside of LMS and a few other systems.
To be able to listen to the music (streams, music from own library) I have RPi’s with https://www.picoreplayer.org/ all over the place.
So the first example is running MA ‘inside’ HA and my solution is to run it aside of HA but also on the same system.
If you read through the piCorePlayer site, you’ll see that you can also set up a RPi as a server for LMS.
There are also other options and it all comes down to what you want to achieve, how and $$$.
I’m running the music part this way for about 10y and since using HA, I integrated this into it.
