@Dman001 I was just being difficult for no good reason.
You said it best there in that last post. Use good network security procedures, isolate the devices in their own VLAN, and, of course, you are using some sort of security appliance or firewall device(s). Man, you will be good to go.
VLAN setup for my Netgear BE17000 appears to be limited. What I have always done is to have all my devices that might “phone home” on my Guest Network with the settings so that the guests are NOT able to see each other. I understand that doing this is almost as good as having a VLAN setup? I have WPA3 security enabled and I have a very strong password. Is this a good way to set this up? And obviously I changed the “default” password on my router login when I first bought and installed the router. Let me know what you all think. Please help.
In the end focus should shift more from vlan to understanding firewall rules and blocking access. End of day a vlan could simply be another vulnerable network
Check the back of your “citizen tracker device” (aka:phone) you are holding in your hand …it says made in “some enemy country” that wants your oil so very bad …then search for a country that has 3% of the population but spents 30% of planets resources. Then listen to a song called “the fiddle and the drum” by Perfect Circle. Enjoy!
Anyway, on the subject, for myself I will definitely build my own doorbell device using en esp32-cam and a button in a 3d printed shell. Simple stuff for my simple home. DIY power!
