So if i understand you correct it is possible to select music in home assistant and use that as my alarm clock.
In the section alarms i can only use built-in sound or upload one, but no option to select for example a playlist in home assistant.
It would be awesome to have the possibility for two condition for the alarm.
At the moment i use a bed sensor and the workday sensor,if that is possible then you are my hero.
Giving my thinksmart a second live and bundle al my alarm clock automatations into one polished interface!
With “Realtime conversations” I guess it’s currently not possible to use a locally hosted LLM e.g. via ollama? If not, this would be really great to add!
Edit: or maybe I can do this by pointing e.g. OpenAI at the local server? Will try tonight
Ollama on its own won’t work. Realtime conversations don’t talk to a text LLM: the kiosk streams audio over OpenAI’s Realtime WebSocket protocol and expects audio back, and Ollama only serves text through its chat API.
Your edit is the right idea though. Each provider has an Endpoint setting, so you can point the OpenAI provider at a local server, as long as that server speaks the Realtime protocol. The closest thing I know of is Hugging Face’s speech-to-speech. It chains local speech to text, an LLM and text to speech behind an OpenAI Realtime compatible endpoint, and the LLM can be anything with an OpenAI compatible API, which Ollama has. Set the OpenAI provider’s Endpoint to ws://<your-server>:8765/v1/realtime and leave the API key empty.
A few things to keep in mind:
- I haven’t tried it myself yet, so I’d love to hear how it goes.
- It needs a decent GPU (their README says around 24 GB of VRAM, or 16 GB on Apple Silicon).
- Home Assistant control still works, since the kiosk runs the tools itself, but the local model has to be good at tool calling. Small models are hit and miss there.
- It’s still speech to text, then the LLM, then text to speech under the hood, so it won’t feel as quick and natural as OpenAI or Grok, which in my opinion doesn’t fit the “realtime” definition.
Very interesting - thank you! I have 34 GB locally (3090+3080) running Qwen3.8:27b. But yes, clearly this isn’t enough … I guess I will test with OpenAI first. What I’m actually trying to do is to point the MCP tool at my local Hermes install, since my goal is that it is a chatbot that can control the house, but also knows about my family (which is why I wanted it all local eventually)
Plugin Release: TopBar for Kiosk Satellite
Hi! I’ve just released a plugin for Kiosk Satellite called TopBar. It adds a floating control bar to your kiosk screen, giving you quick access to your favorite Home Assistant actions directly on top of your dashboard.
@nelsonamen that’s really good looking, thank you for sharing!
Is there an inventory of plugins? I’ve got almost a dozen at this point.
Good question. Where can I find Kiosk Satellite Plugins?
Hi there,
its simply a GREAT tool and help. I wasnt satisfied with the look and the configuration of fully kiosk, but had no good alternative - now, a whole different level!
My wife now has a good peak into home assistant and can oversee the (for her) important functions at a glance. She loves it..
Contact to Javier is always very friendly, and - he cares and helps so fast..
What I would love at the moment: T o have some oversight, regarding plugins for kiosk satellite.
Could it be possible, to have some "browsing functionality in the web admin, where you can administrate the plugins?
Best regards…so happy, because its a really great enhancement for HA.
@jxlarrea .. Thank you for looking into my GitHub Issues!
It’s working flawlessly!
I am now thinking of getting some of those Echo Shows or similar. I have a MacBook and I tested some local speech-to-text solutions.
What would be the best setup for an Amazon like experience like: How played my favourite football team, how warm is it? Start a timer for 15mins, turn on the AC in the living room etc.
The last time I’ve tested HA + Voice things it was not a real good replacement for non technical users as a lot of things which were used on Alexa or Apple or Google assistants weren’t that good - yet.
So: I am open for any suggestions or recommendations in that direction:)
I wasn’t aware there were so many plugins already out there. My plan was to update the plugins.md doc with a list of the available plugins (at least the more high quality ones) but I’ve been only aware of a couple that @dcoulson was working on and since yesterday the plugin by @nelsonamen.
If you have some plugins that believe are worthy of public release, please showcase them on the Kiosk Satellite discussion forums. I will create a new plugin category as well there.
Or a small Plugin-Repository hosted by you? Like an HACS Store but for the Kiosksattelite app?
Just migrated my two Lenovo ThinkSmart View devices to Kiosk Satellite, and I’m seriously impressed.
After years of using Fully Kiosk Browser, it’s great to finally phase it out. Kiosk Satellite brings much of the functionality I previously had to automate directly into Home Assistant, with clean native integration.
The ESPHome integration is crazy smart: screen and volume controls, buttons, and other features become proper HA entities without browser-specific workarounds. I’ve also migrated my camera handling, announcements, and URL overlays: everything became so much more fluent and workable.
The migration removed far more than it added: 112 additions and 514 deletions in my HA config, eliminating a lot of kiosk-specific logic, popups, screensaver handling, and other workarounds.
Migration commit:
Setup was straightforward, the UI is polished and clear, and the whole project feels purpose-built for Home Assistant. Both kiosks are running great. Voice Satellite is next on my list.
Huge kudos to Xavier: this is exactly the kind of Home Assistant project I didn’t know I was waiting for.
@Hmmbob glad you like it ![]()
I don’t know about that, the last thing I need is another repo to maintain.
Could be a markdown on your GitHub - people would be able to submit their own links on their plugins via a PR.
Two things that actually convinced me to use KS, the dashboard filtering and the Clapper (makes me smile). Face detect is also surprisingly nice.
On my other testbed, redmi note 6 pro (Android 9), the updates never worked as they should but no worries, I do them manually with a few more clicks.
Also, I can’t make the camera motion sensor to work at all on any device. Not sure why.
Whatever change of settings I do to the screensaver section breaks face detect but it’s a simple off and on and it works again.
Maybe it’s because my devices are cheepOS.
I tried every other app on my no-name wall tablet (Android 15) and although KS drinks battery faster, won it’s place fair and square.
Plugins will turn rogue if you don’t adapt some strong candidates to satisfy the majority but decision/PITA is on you my friend.
Best regards!
Same, I didn’t think I wanted a kiosk until there was a kiosk worth using and I always knew that fully kiosk was not it. Native voice functionality is the reason I gave it a go in the first place, now I have 2 kiosks with a third one planned… I run out of old android devices after that
.
I love it so far too! I would like an entity for the face detection. it works good on one device and hit and miss on my echo show 8 gen 1.
