Lovelace - using it as the default frontend

Lovelace is described as ‘experimental’ (whatever that means in HA!) but I think I am ready to move over to using it full-time.

Have many people done this?

And a couple of basic questions before I do.

  • Once you decide to set Lovelace as the default, is there a way to revert back if necessary?
  • Is there any likelihood that because it is experimental Lovelace might actually be dropped in the future?
  • Is it reasonable to think that nothing will drastically change with the implementation of Lovelace that will impact my frontend in the future?
  • Am I right in my interpretation of the docs that deleting (comment out) all my old views and all groups that exist purely as frontend elements might have a beneficial impact on the performance of HA?

And finally an aside, I am sure I remember seeing a Lovelace example that showed a divider line between entities but can’t find it now. Am I mistaken?

I’d like the know the answer to these questions too…

1 yes, just click the link on the about page again

2 I don’t think you ever get that certainty with homeassistant, but I think the general infrastructure is fairly well implanted now and the general answer is probably yes (so long as you don’t split it up, see the warning in the docs)

3 I expect so in the long run, but negligible.

(2 and 3 are educated guesses, 1 is from personal experimentation)

I’m very certain that lovelace will replace the current UI. It’s talked about a lot on the discord server.

EDIT: I don’t think they will remove the old UI. They may just change the default to lovelace.
