Loving Tuya Local

I still have around twenty TUYA switches, sockets and lights. (Mostly switches) The other day I opened a door with a RING window sensor on it that controls a Tuya plug. Nothing happened... for about fifteen seconds. That was it for me. I installed Tuya Local on every piece of Tuya equipment I have left. What a terrific change. Went from relying on the cloud response to instantaneous response. If any of you are still stuck with Tuya devices, I highly recommend it. And don't confuse it with Local Tuya which is an entirely different kettle of fish and is only needed for off the wall Tuya installs.

Hm.. not so great, as it seems... no matter what i do integration can't find any of my device's IP, i'd have to enter it manually. And if i look into my router's DHCP pool it's a guessing game...

Can you expand on the difference? All I can figure out is the name and that one is more confusing

That's one thing you need to do in order to configure Tuya Local. You need to have static IP addresses for all of your TUYA devices. You can either assign static addresses to the devices when you set them up, or set up reservations for their MAC addresses on your router. It's also a good idea to have a spreadsheet that includes your name for the device, the IP address and MAC address. Once that's all in place it really is a piece of cake to set up and well worth it.

It is pretty confusing... Local Tuya requires you to be able to open an account on TUYA and act as a developer. It's a miserable process. If you don't need to do anything off the wall with the TUYA devices Tuya Local is more than sufficient. It's much easier to set up and integrate.

Off the wall meaning...? If you mean battery powered I'm definitely going to take a look!

I only have 10 static ip slots on my router that I've already maxed out...

I do have static IP's for all my devices except Tuya... somehow i didn't find how/where to find their's MAC addresses to make a reservation. Honestly, i didn't try very hard...
But, in genreal i always say that all devices in HA system must have static (or reserved) IP's, yes. DHCP only leads into problems...
