Make Light Switch platform a UI component please

I have a lot of Lights turned on/off by switches.
Today I manage this in domoticz with a mqtt integration. (and they end up as lights in HA)

I’m about to move all my switches to home assistant but when starting the journey they end up as switches. so I found this Light Switch - Home Assistant and it will work for me. but if you are coming from domotics this is a part that I can not understand that it has not been implemented as a usable feature. In domoticz i can chose the type of switch from a long list same as in picture here Dummy for virtual Switches - Domoticz

so I hope that someone from nabucasa will take on this challange to fix this usability thing with home assistant

same actually goes with rooms, they are, to say the least, hard to manage in home assistant.

As far as I know, you can choose the icon now from a pull down menu does not matter if it is a switch or light, you can make it look in the GUI as a Light.

Or what I used to do before and maybe that is not the correct way, but it is what I did is place the switch in lights.yaml that way you can give them a light name plus Lovelace will show it as light :grinning:

Which was what i wanted to avoid. Let’s move this to UI

Yes, please. I just spent way too much time (and too many online posts) just finding out this exists and how to use it. Adding it to the UI seems like a fairly straightforward enhancement that could really help a lot of struggling newbs, and light switches are an extremely common scenario

My struggle began with trying to get my voice assistant to work more naturally: I want Siri to “turn on the family room light”. But she kept getting persnickety because there were no lights, only switches, and everything has switches. “Turn on switches” is both unnatural and also turned on speakers, purifier, etc

Of course I don’t even know if this was helpful, since it was easier to figure out how to edit the device class in HomeKit and get it working. However, it also adds complexity and deters newbs when you have to make more edits in more automation systems. The HomeKit bridge has been fantastic so far, but it means I want HA to be the “source of truth”, rather than actively maintain both. Baby steps …
