a while ago I have bought the Xiaomi Aqara Air Conditioning Companion. I did so because the Aqara Documentation lists the Aqara Air Conditioning Companion (lumi.acpartner.v3) as a compatible device. Little did I know, that the missing Xiaomi in front of the name matters that much. Turns out the device I got was the Xiaomi Mi Air Conditioning Companion (lumi.acpartner.v2).
To keep going I ordered the other (round) gateway, and I’m quite impressed by how snappy the Xiaomi implementation in Home Assistant is working. But now I ask myself: what can I do with the unsupported Air Conditioning Companion? Do these gateways act as ZigBee repeaters? In that case I would just plug it in somewhere else in the house to increase the coverage.
I am sceptical though (didn’t find anything on Google regarding that question) and don’t think I have any chance of making good use of the device. So I’m open to any know-how of what useful things I can do with that device, even though it’s not supported by Home Assistant.
Yes, I’m aware of the other Xiaomi-related threads. But glancing at them I didn’t find the answers I was looking for. Hence this thread with the specific question.

I am about to order one of the air conditioning controllers and after reading your post i wonder which one of the two i should go for since i want the working version. I mean the regular gateway from your first link. Because of the Chinese plug of the AC version I can’t use the switch functionality anyways, so in retrospect I should have gone with the regular gateway from the beginning. That one work really well for me.
The chinese plus can be solved with two adapters.
They are not easy to find (nor cheap herein Europe), but now some suppliers started to deliver with adapter included thank god
Well i guess i will take the plunge for a square version since that one has the least amount of MI or Mija in the name
Details for mine say it is model: lumi.acpartner.v3, mcu_fw_ver: 0149 which is supported version according to documentation.
But it is still not working with HA installed on python3 (Win10). Error is same as in documentation and I’ve tried all steps to retry without success.

Does it then mean that model: lumi.acpartner.v3 is not supported?
There are 2 types of devices. Rounded devices are from Mijia and the squared one from Aqara. These are 2 different manufacturers under the Xiaomi brand. I think neither rounded (mijia) nor squared (aqara) AC companions does support multicast events via LAN protocol. You can follow this discussion here: https://github.com/aholstenson/miio/issues/79.
PS: Recently Aqara released their own Gateway called “Aqara Hub” which aim to replace Mijia Gateway…
PS: I’ve made the same mistake, bought a squared ac companion / gateway just to find out that it is not working with Home Assistant and/or other 3rd party software, and I have to buy original Mijia gateway to skip the Mi Home app …
