Make your Dumb Security Lights Smarter

I have a number of legacy motion activated security lights that server their purpose quite well but don’t contribuite to my smart home setup as they don’t talk to anything. The cost of true smart security light is dropping but is stilll a noticeable cost and there is the requirement to physically remove and replaced each of them. A smart switch that measures current can easily be used to make these smarter without the need to touch them. Use a current reporting smart switch to control them such as the Sonoff POW or Shelly 1 PM. As motion triggers the light the current increases. If several lights are on the same circuit, it is possible to distinguish which light was triggered by selection of the bulbs with different current draw (wattage or technology) and a little logic. It works.
