Managing log file size

I’m a HA noob. Even though I have only 3 dirt simple automations I noticed my HA backups are getting bigger and bigger.

I’ve read the point of view about reading the logs for problems and that’s a good point. Since things seem to be running well so far my concern is about the growing size of my backups, which I assume is because of the logs.

I’ve got the new feature running for backups which makes copies automatically and the option to delete older copies automatically.

If backups become stale and are worthy of being auto deleted then why isn’t there a feature to auto delete older log entries to keep the log files manageable, there must be something I’m missing?

Thanks in advance for any comments or direction.

Growin backups is not the logs, but most likely the recorder database. Configuring that to only record history of entities you want can go a long way.

The default is 10 days for detailed data, and indefinite but condensed information for certain types of sensors.

Note that the database is purged periodically, so it may grow fast at first, and then after the purge be smaller again.

I didnt run into any information of the existence of recorder history. I’ll research that when I can later today.

Is there a best practice I should be following or setting beyond the default settings you mentioned to keep this area under control?

What exactly is bigger and bigger? How big is your backup?
