I am new to home assistant and have my server (Chromebox 3 with sonoff dongles) running now.
One sonoff is native Zigbee
Other one i bought to use it as a matter. Flashed it with sonoff flasher to openthread 2.4.4
In homeassistant: added thread, matter, openborder router
Openborder router is started, network is running. When i look at the thread configuration, there is a small icon with a key next to the border router info
He also finds the other router on the Google Nest hub 2.
It looked to me that everything is ok…
Now i try to add the first matter device, ikea myggspray motion sensor
Using home assistant companion on my
connect to device…
generate matter login data…
connecting to thread network ha-thread-2334 (the network displayed in HA)
Then: cannot connect to network.
I tried this on my android phone, ipad and even on a brand new installed android phone, so the android cache and data should not be a problem.
Maybe an ipv6 problem?
My HA server has an ipv6 address
Did you synchronize the credentials in the Companion App? If not, go to “Settings | Thread” on your smartphone and click on the blue bar at the bottom.
Thanks for replying!
Sure. Multiple times, deleted data, removed the app entirely and reinstalled. And also used a complete new and empty android smartphone. When trying to connect the app failes at the point that it says “connecting to thread network ha-thread-2334”, which is the correct network.
Something that got me when initially setting up Matter was I had IPv6 disabled on my local machine that runs Home Assistant. I have a Debian system running Supervised and the machine itself wouldn’t allow IPv6. I had turned it off initially due to some stability issue.
That stills sounds like a wrong password. If this dialogue is displayed on the mobile device, you should se log entries in the HA’s OTBR log. Would you mind trying the following:
Activate debug
Try to connect a new Matter device
Deactivate debug
Then check the log.
Another possibility that you may try would be to commission the device manually through the Matter integration web front.
If you are using an Android device it could be because your Google Services, you need to go to Settings → Apps → Google Play Services → Storage → Clear Cache.
That helped me in the past however now that triggered a different error “Matter is not available” that I’m trying to solve.
Honestly, I wouldn’t get Matter devices over Thread if I would start fresh now… Spread the word
