Matter smart-plugs losing Energy reporting capability

Since I updated to v2026.1.0 about half of my matter compatible Tapo (P110M) smart plugs are saying they have no energy data to offer. The other half are still providing energy readings as they have been for some time.

I’ve restarted both HA and the plugs in question with no change in behaviour.

All my Tapo plugs are running firmware v1.3.0 with v1.0 hardware.

Since not all are impacted, it seems unlikely its related to the HA update - but I’ve run out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Has nobody else seen this behaviour?

YES I have the same problem!

All my matter Tapo plugs energy reporting disappeared two days ago.

Maybe unrelated but: One month ago, I just spent a day switching them from the TPlink integration to matter (because the TPlink integration did an auto-update to 1.3 and broke itself completely).

I indeed have cut the internet connection of my Tapo (so they don’t update and break my setup). But apparently no internet can break the energy reporting… because the TPlink needs to sync its clock online. Absolutely brain-dead trash implementation.

Anyway I will allow them to connect, maybe there’s a way to firewall all but online NTP time servers, but I have other things to do with my life. I will report back with the results.

Some of mine stopped reporting properly with the same value present. I looked and the Energy and Power sensors had duplicated on 7 out of 8 plugs in HA.

The original sensors previously known as Energy is now Energy (2) but the new data is coming in one Energy (1), requiring updates to all the dashboards and graphs.

Very annoying. I have not checked if it corresponds to a HA wide update or a recent Matter update.

Update - The only plug that has not suffered this is still on the Tapo 1.3.2 firmware (auto update not enabled). All of the others have been automatically updated to 1.4.1.

Frustratingly, HA despite having created 6 new entities for these devices, has not updated the firmware value. So I had to use the Tapo app to query each one.

Digging into this. the updated plugs have changed the structure of the Matter endpoints. Previously there were two endpoints, 1 for on/off and 2 for sensors.
Now it looks like they have combined the on/off and sensors into Endpoint 1

If you reinterview the device Endpoint 2 will be removed, but the associated entities in HA will persist.

Reporting back: allowing internet connection did fix my Tapo energy recording. I just had to wait a bit (one day?), and re-interview them all.

Just to add to this. I never used the Tapo app (only the Tapo HA integration in past, but it broke 2-3 month ago, so I only use Matter now). I don’t want to install the app, nor make an account.

I have 4 P110M plugs that all stopped reporting energy usage around 14th Feb. I’m new to HA and home automation in general. How do I check if they have internet access, and how do I re-interview them?

Actually looking more closely at the device information there looks to be 2 energy sensors(?): Energy (1) and Energy(2).

Energy (1) started recording around 28h Feb

Energy (2) stopped recording around 14th Feb
