I use both Zigbee and Matter / Thread.

Using the Zigbee map the different devices use the names that HA understands. I can therefore tell what a device is and where it is. e.g Kitchen door sensor, Living room light switch etc. This works and if something drops off I can tell what is is and where it is immediately.

The Thread Map - not so much.
Look at the below:

If for example one of the MYGGBETT devices drops off, for whatever reason. I know its a window/door sensor but where is it. There is no association to an HA device name.

Or am I missing something either obvious or non-obvious. Its the one issue thats preventing me from going all in on Matter/Thread. The Wifi Map has the same issue

[Yes I have three border routers, in three different locations in the house, and that seems to work quite nicely.]

As an Update - I can manually edit the node name - which I guess is a workaround. Its a shame its manual and not automatic as I still have to work out what is what

Manual modification of the device node name right after initial installation seems the only way to do this.
I guess that doesn’t help much if you already installed a bunch without doing it. :slight_smile:

Yeah - thats my immediate problem. Which GrillPlatts (for example) is which without breaking each one, one at a time.

To possibly avoid some additional frustration: It appears that Matter Thread diagram can lose the user-assigned tags under some circumstances. To work around this, someone has written a HACS integration that maintains its own list of your device labels, and periodically (default: every half hour), goes thru your Matter devices & re-applies any device labels that have gone missing. Seems to work well for me.
