I'm looking for some clarification if possible please.
I have a reasonable Zigbee network on a usb dongle plus a couple of Z2MQTT devices on another dongle and all seemed stable over a couple of year period.
I recently added my first SHelley device, a mini switch in my kitchen light, seemed easy, from reading the spec it looked like it would be on WiFi, which was good, When I added it it seems to have gone in on Matter - I have no idea what Matter is as never used it.
Now I'm seeing instability on my ZigBee stuff, not terrible but enough to be dodgy. I have read somewhere that not to mix Matter and Zigbee?? Is that correct?
Have I given myself a headache now or weakened my ZigBee setup somehow??
How do I fix it if its wrong? Are Shelley Wifi devices??
I am not the world's most sophisticated techie but....
Matter has two separate 'roads', one by wifi and the other through thread. It is likely that your device is Matter through wifi. You can add this device with the HA Companion App on your phone using the Matter integration.
As far as Zigbee and Matter, I have two separate dongles for Zigbee and Matter-Thread, and they work fine together.
You do not need a dongle for Matter-Wifi.
Shelly gen4 are matter by default, and with like 5 presses they can be zigbee. Log into the AP it created on startup and you can make it WIFI or any of them.
Do reading of the book of instructions or online docs for your device.
I know its odd adding a device without knowing much, but it was pretty slick really and i just followed along, HA is like that now - easy to use really.
I did not do the 5-button press thingy so am pretty sure its not on ZigBee. The instructions with the Mini were dire at best, micro print and pretty unreadable sadly.
I can't seem to find out in HA how it is connected - I see no IP address but did see an option to ping device, that suggests to me it's on WiFi?
Matter now has it's own entry in the settings list of HA.
Its all operator error and next time I'll know but....
Yea, "sustainable" small peace of box/paper , you find it easier to search for specs& instructions online
Here is the Docs of The Matter Integration, with links to thread etc Matter - Home Assistant .
and if you paste the ip number 192.168.0.150 into your browser, you will find alot info of your Shelly, in specific under http://192.168.0.150/#/settings
PS: If you want your Shelly in HA only as an IP Device, use the Shelly Integration
I Would recommend that you use the Shelly Integration, as you loose functionalities/entities when adding it to the Matter Integration
It seems to be on wifi from the settings, can i get rid of matter and go for the shelley integration easily as i would want it on wifi/ip only?
Would that change need access to the device? It's possible but behind a ceiling rose.
Looking at Google info, now that i am inside the shelley unit, i can just enter my wifi details and save - it then connects to my network and drops matter? Then delete the device in HA, remove Matter and install the native integration??
Im not sure, but
*Delete the Shelly from the Matter integration
*Turn the Shelly Off
*Delete the Matter Integration ( And in Matter APPs, the 3 Dots )
*Restart HA
*Turn On the Shelly
When/if the Shelly turns up in Settings/Devices(as available device) click ignore if it's the Matter Integration, If it's Shellys click install
Othervice click install integration choose Shelly, install with the IP/Credentials etc.
