mDNS issues with matter server and HAOS VM via unraid

Hi all,

I’m having some issues that I don’t fully understand! (What’s new I guess!)

For a long time I have run HA as a container in Unraid as it was easy to manage but I struggled to get matter server setup correctly with all the right ipv6 settings on unraid, so I thought I’d try the HAOS VM and matter server addon as the install looks simple online.

I managed to get my Tado X smart thermostat into HA via matter and it works fine as far as I can tell. The TBR is a homepod mini, and the thermostat works via HA, Home, and Tado app.

My one issue is repeated errors, every minute. It’s always the same error:

2025-10-26 21:04:16.297 (Dummy-2) CHIP_ERROR [chip.native.DIS] Failed to parse mDNS query

Despite that error I can seem to control my thermostat as expected!

I’m using Unifi for my network and don’t have ipv6 setup as my ISP doesn’t provide it. As far as I understood it, with the HAOS VM and matter server addon it uses linklocal so doesnt need ipv6 setup on the router?

Any help appreciated! If you need any more info, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Thanks,
Ben

Yes to link local

No to doesn’t need ipv6 setup
If your router isn’t setup for IPv6 I don’t believe IPv6 traffic will be passed.

This may or may not be related to the mdns issues. For that I would connect to server and run mdns query from server or , if you can, monitor mdns traffic through firewall to see if it is being passed
