Media players not discovered anymore

Just all of a sudden, HASS is not discovering any of my media players. None, except those Google Home Mins I have connected trough HA Cloud.

Nor my Sony Bravia, my Yamaha Receiver neither my Alexa are discovered anymore. I can connect to all these devices outside of HASS, either by using it’s app or web interface.

I have not altered any settings. In my config.yaml I still have this:

discovery:

How can I search for errors?

Running Home Assistant 0.87.0 but I do not think this problem has anything to do with what version I am running.

Here are the relevant lines from the log:

2019-02-14 00:17:26 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.media_player] Updating yamaha media_player took longer than the scheduled update interval 0:00:10
2019-02-14 00:17:26 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.media_player] Updating braviatv media_player took longer than the scheduled update interval 0:00:100:

Verify that you can connect to them outside of HA. I know for a fact the yamaha can be accessed via the ip.

Hi, yes I can connect to every other media device using it’s app or elsewhere.

Updating my OP with that info.

Have you tried hardcoding the device instead of relying on discovery?

Sure:

media_player:
  - platform: braviatv
    host: 192.168.0.15
    name: Sony-TV i vardagsrummet

  - platform: yamaha
    host: 192.168.0.14
    name: Yamaha-reciever i vardagsrummet
    SCAN_INTERVAL: 30

Are other components working over your network? Can you verify that the IPs are still the same for the devices? It seems odd.

I have some problems with the Z-wave network, but asside of that theres no other problems on the network and the devices have the same IP’s as in my config.yaml

Restarted HASS after removing the Aeon Z-wave stick but those media_players are not there anyway.

This is very odd indeed.

does your hass have a hostname? You’ve been on here a while, what os / hass are you running?

Yeah, been around since July -17 and I’m able to solve most of the issues I ran into. This one though…

Hass has a domain name and i can ping/netcast my media devices from the RPI that I am running Hass on…

I’ll try to do a clean install of hass on a new SD-card just to make sure this is a HASS-issue.

Clean install of Hass, found my Philips Hue and all of my Cast-enabled devices. That’s all.

were you running hassio? There was a major change july 2018 and if you upgraded past that point instead of starting over, you’d run into issues with your hostname among other things.

I have always been running Home Assistant all since the dawn of time. Never tried hass.io

Some progress made!!!

I did a clean install and then reverted back to 0.68 - no media players discovered.
Then I added these lines in order to “discover” my Sony TV and my Yamaha-receiver. Rebooted and

  • Success! They were found.

    media_player:

    • platform: braviatv
      host: 192.168.0.15
      name: Sony-TV i vardagsrummet

    • platform: yamaha
      host: 192.168.0.14
      name: Yamaha-reciever i vardagsrummet
      SCAN_INTERVAL: 30

Then I upgraded HASS to 0.80 , 0.83 , 0.86 and finally 0.87.1 and the devices are there!

BUT!

Since i did not configure the Sony TV, it does not appear in the overview-page. In devices however, the Sony-TV is listed as

configurator.sony_tv_i_vardagsrummet

Configurator? What?
Where do I find this Configurator-thing? I have looked everywhere in the UI (not lovelace) without finding anything. Well, behind that “bell”-icon in the upper right in the front-end.

Following instructions and…voila! Now I can se the Sony-TV in my overview.

It was a long hard way to do it, but now my problems are gone. At least for now #nerd #musttrynewsettings
