Migration from Hassio to Container on Debian11

Hello there,

I try to migrate my installation from a hassio VM on my Server to a Narrowbox4k running Debian11 and Homeassistant in a Container.

So far i got it all up and running with the container installation and I am ready to run the onboarding.

Now trying to move my current installation over to the narrowbox - i don’ want to lose all the data that I collected over that past months.

This all just to save some power because the server draws a lot and the Narrowbox is fast and needs a fraction of that power.

Sadly I don’t have the option to upload a backup while onboarding on the Narrowbox as i thought i would have - this seems not to be supported with the container installation?

I apologize if this is a basic question - but what would be the best course of action to move data an configuration of the installation over to the container installation?

And is it correct that Addons are not supported in a container installation?
If yes I will have to try to get Mosquitto MQTT installed beforehand I guess.

Thanks for your time in reading this and I hope that I can get it up and running with your help and for others that try the same as I try to.

Best regards,

Stefan

Copy the contents of the config folder over. Backups are also just tar files so you can extract the contents and copy out the contents of the config folder from within. But you’re correct, there’s no restore option in a container install so you have to do this manually

Yes, that is correct. This chart shows what is supported in each type of installation.

When i started with homeassistant and got to downloads, I never scrolled down low enough for me to find the comparison.

Thank you for pointing it out and I appreciate your answer.
