Hi all
I have been using HA for over 10 years on a Raspberry Pi 3b+ and am (finally) in the process of migrating to a Proxmox LXC for some more power to enable more capabilities (voice control + Frigate)
I’ve been using a Sonoff ZB dongle and Nortek dongles for Zigbee and Zwave respectively.
Since my Proxmox server is in the basement but I wanted to retain my well designed and stable radio networks without a powered USB extension or running zb2mqtt on the old Pi, I opted to order a PoE coordinator.
Tomorrow I’m receiving a SMLight SLZB-MRW10 to replace both dongles for ZB+ZW and keep my antenna location the same just running PoE to it in the same location as the RBPi is now.
My question and need for advice here is the best way to go about migrating to the new HA instance with the least amount of down time and effort, since my home security system uses many ZB devices and ZW for the keypads. I need to keep the wife happy and make the migration as quickly as possible.
I’ve already got both HA instances running (RBPi + Prox) and was hoping that once I receive the new SMLight coordinator I could transfer the devices easily and perhaps the configuration of Alarmo and some sound-trigger automations I’ve already set up.
Since I am migrating to both a new adapter AND a new HA instance, what would be the best order of operations to reduce the amount of time I might have to spend re-pairing devices? I’ve done configuration backup/restore before but the one time I did a new ZB coordinator I simply rebuilt the network from scratch which was time consuming.
Should I first connect the new coordinator to old HA and migrate the devices to the new coordinator, then configuration backup and restore to new HA? Or should I config backup first and then add the new adapter in the new HA instance?
Hopefully this is making sense. Looking for the lowest friction way to do this.
Thanks in advance if anybody has the best plan of action for me tomorrow
Edit: “Migrate adapter” is the setting I just checked in ZHA and used the wrong terminology.
My thought process says, connect the new coordinator to old HA, migrate devices to new adapter, back up config, then shut down old HA and connect new coordinator to new HA and then restore backup once it’s added with ZHA again.
Hopefully this is logical?
