Hi all how do I edit the boot sector…each time I try and edit in terminal I appear locked out of being able to edit…doh. I am using ubuntu booting from usb…and I can see sda1…on the ssd…I can mount the partition…but not edit. Are there any tricks and tips …you can give me to allow me to edit. I dont have another linux pc and I dont want to take out the ssd…can I use ssh…??
Was not sure where to post this … if this is causing irratation I apologize…can the moderators move it … if there is an issue…

Of HAOS, you don’t. It’s basically a locked OS. If you did find a way, the changes you made would disappear the first time you update the version. Likely you are not looking in the right container to do what you are trying to do.
You may want to use container install or load HAOS into a VM to have access to your unrelated OS for tweaking.

Struth…I thought this would be a breeze!!!..chat gpt states that its possible to edit the ssd directly but you need a full install of linux… I have a windows 11 pc with a spare ssd which I could install linux on…the mini pc ssd I could mount in my ssd to usb dongle…would this work in your opinion?

LLM’s guess based on months old training data.
Much oif the training is based on Reddit, FB, and the forums here with equal weight on if what the helper like me guessed correct (or Not)

Bottom line, don’t trust them.

HA just changed add-ons to apps. If you ask an LLM how to install an app right now, they wouldn’t have a clue… For instance…

First question needs to be why do you want to change it? What is it you hope to achieve?

Nomodeset is used when the graphics card is not fully compatible with automatic optimized setups.
I am just not sure HA even use that setup, because it is just a terminal output.

When we changed from supervised to HaOS on our old machine the missing nomodeset actually was a show stopper and we rolled back to supervised because unattended boot wasn’t possible anymore

My MLLSE mini pc will not achieve an unsupervised boot without it. As soon as I add it in Grub bingo boots faultlessly… I need to be able to edit the boot sector.
