The curtain motor itself is similar in operation to the Aqara Curtain Driver E1. It is, however slimmer and taller than the Aqara unit.
In theory, the two metal hooks extend out of the top of the unit, hook onto the runners on the curtain track and then retract back into the unit until the rubber driving wheel contacts the bottom of the curtain track.
I say "in theory" because I have no doubt that it works but I have slightly different curtain tracks where the runners are in a slot along the back face, not the bottom edge, and the hooks don't extend far enough out to allow them to be engaged.
The comparison to the Aqara unit is because I have also tried that and come unstuck at the same point.
That being said, I went ahead and charged the curtain robot motor using the supplied USB A - USB C cable to test out pairing it with ZHA. The charging port is located on the bottom of the unit along with the power switch and Set button.
The pairing procedure is detailed in the documentation and was easy to follow and ZHA recognised the device first time. I was able to control the motor using the buttons on the device page within Home Assistant.
The unit is supplied with the above mentioned USB cable, a USB A extension cable (useful to reach the unit in place), some attachments for use with a curtain rod, a remote control with wall bracket, a double-sided sticky pad to attach the wall bracket to the wall, screws (not pictured), also for the bracket, some metal brackets and a bag of cord.
I don't know what the last two items are used for since I didn't get that far through the instructions.
The unit feels well made and the inclusion of a remote control is a nice touch although I imagine that most users will have these operating via Home Assistant Automations. It's also good that the parts to use the motor with a curtain rod are included. With Aqara, you need to buy the rod version.
Aside from the physical lack of fit with my curtain tracks, I would have been happy to use this curtain robot. I feel as though a future hardware revision could be made to work with my curtain tracks since the runners hang beneath the track and the bottom surface of the track is smooth so would work with the rubber driving wheel.
