I’ve run across a rather annoying issue. I’m running the latest version of the HomeAssistant OS on a virtual machine and have been using the web ui for the interface. It use to have settings, configuration, developer tools, script editor and now it only has overview, energy, map, logbook, history, media, notifications and mqtt login. I did a snapshot of the virtual disk to migrate it to another computer when it was working fine with all the tabs but when I logged in on the new machine the above tabs were missing; did this with three different machines. My original install of HA was working with all the tabs until a few days ago when it asked me to login in the web ui and then the tabs were gone (settings, developer tools, configuration, etc). The tabs aren’t hidden, I checked. Someone mentioned pressing “c” when on the page and that did nothing. Any help would be appreciated, just point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Hi, welcome to the forum!
That setting of the sidebar menu is stored in your browser session (profile)
If you have to log in again, it means that you have to enable advanced mode again.
Thank you for the welcome. I’ve clicked on everything and don’t have an advanced mode. There’s no advanced mode on the login screen nor the web ui once logged in. The only place that allows me to change anything is in the MQTT Login and it shows as follows: Language, number format, time format, theme (grayed out), dashboard (grayed out, overview default), change the order and hide items in sidebar (already did that), always hide the sidebar, vibrate, push notifications, automatically close connection, keyboard status, log out, change password, multi-factor authentication modules, refresh tokens, and long-lived access tokens. Thank you for your assistance.
have you clicked on the link from Nick4?
the advanced mode is in your user profile page
Everything but the link…
“the guy was drowning, asked for God for help and waited for God as he waved 2 boats passing by asking if he needed help”
Yes I clicked on the link and it opened the MQTT login page with the same options that I listed above with no advanced mode listed. The link connected me to the http://homeassistant.local:8123, which I’m currently using, MQTT Login. Thanks for sending the link though, it was worth a shot. My current url is homeassistant.local:8123/profile/dashboard.
This is the HTML behind the link: Link to User profile – My Home Assistant which should have opened your profile where you can set the Advanced mode
and which most likely will give you back the missing shortcuts.
You are not saying whether your issue has been solved.
I do appreciate your help but the links provided simply put me back at homeassistant.local:8123/profile/dashboard which is where the profile is but there is no advanced mode to select. That’s the part that has me stumped. It should be there but isn’t. It was there before it made me log back in but isn’t now.
Are you an administrator ?
What do you mean by that? If you are logging in as a user that is meant for MQTT, then you are not an administrator and possibly even a restricted user. You should not use logins made for systems to log in as a user.
Yes I have an admin account on the HA os. I’m using the login info for the mqtt server to login to the HA web ui. I tried logging into the web ui using the admin credentials for the HA os but it says that they are invalid. I changed the admin password in HA to see if that would work and it didn’t. That could very well be the issue but I don’t know why it’s saying the credentials are invalid but the ones for mqtt work.
That is the problem. The mqtt is not an administrator, so you don’t see all tabs in the UI. You need to recover your admin credentials.
See here:
Thank you. I’ve already read the article and reset the password which it said was done successfully but when I try to enter those credentials into the homeassistant.local:8123 url it says that they are invalid.
Turns out that there are some password requirements that I wasn’t aware of and it didn’t like some of my characters. I was able to change it to something it liked and now all is good. Thank You to everyone that helped out.
