Is it possible to have a user in HaOS that is able to see cameras for example but not other users locations while the user itself is being tracked?
You want to track a user that has access to cameras, but you donât want them to be able to track other users? Trying to wrap my head around what youâre really askingâŚ
Sounds like someone with kids to me!
Yes, want to track a user who has access to the Overview dashboard and can see cameras and lights for example but not able to use location of other users. And this user would be tracked via companion app by the HaOS administrator.
Well, you canât only track them if you are the âadministratorâ. Other users can too.
Sounds less like a parental request to me now.
Be careful!
ETA: I am out. LOL
That doesnât sound too difficult to accomplish. Obviously, donât give the user administrator privileges and you can edit the visibility for each tab and/or dashboard for which users you want to allow access or block access. Do you have location tracking in your overview dashboard? Or do you use your Map dashboard or a map card for location tracking?
Thanks.
Using map tab.
Is there an advantage to use âmap cardâ or âoverview dashboardâ over âmapâ in this case?
If you have a specific dashboard youâre using for location tracking, itâs very simple. Go to Settings > Dashboards. Click on the 3-dot icon for which dashboard you want to block access to and click edit. A pop-up appears and you can toggle it for admin access only.
If you have an addendum tab on your overview dashboard you want to block access to, go to your overview dashboard, click edit at the top right, select the tab you want to block, click the edit icon for that tab, a pop-up appears, click visibility and remove the users you donât want seeing that specific tab.
No real advantage per se, at least none that I can think of off the top of my head. Itâs more-so about user preference and aesthetics.
You can creat a dash containing the entities they can access.
A user can break out of any walls HA may put up. It currently does not try to prevent this.
Tracking is not precise/live
Only update location when enter/exit zone or open app. Good enough to say someone is home but donât expect it to locate a person in a mall
This isnât my experience with the Android Companion App. Itâs not real-time updates, but updates regularly. If I have the person card map open I can watch the dot move over time if someone is driving. That is just the standard tracking, AFAIK the app has more options for triggering more precise tracking but Iâve never needed such a thing.
android is always better.
I was pretty much referring to ios behavior
Bolting on security and graduated access levels is going to be hard, now that the horse has bolted. It wasnât boiled into HomeAssistant in the first place. Your option is security by obscurity, something easily bypassed.
