Modem Router Restart - unexpected Aeotec Smart Switch 7 failure - all ideas welcome!

I have a cable modem and router that occasionally need reboots; they are connected to Aeotec Smart Switch 7s; and have automations that sequence restarting them. The switches are connected to a UPS; and the home has a backup generator. This has been working reliably for several years; automations run every now and then; typically after Spectrum internet outages…

Last week the power supply failed on the HA host computer; which brought down HA and took the Zwave stick off-line. Not ideal as I was not at the house and it’s winter; but I was able to connect in via VPN and look at non-zwave data to make sure heat was working, etc.

5 days later; internet connection was lost. So i figured I was unlucky and had the modem fail; and HA is offline; so it won’t reboot. When I arrive at the house I find that both Smart Switch 7s are turned off; are non responsive to manual button presses - so the failure was the switches turning off on there own. I’ve reviewed 3 years of recorder data; and I poll the switch state every 10 minutes; and I can find no evidence of them ever turning off on their own before; the stick and HA was offline for 5 days so no chance of them sending anything. i tested the UPS and it’s fine. I have a case open with Aeotec.

To me it seems that one of two things has happened

a) After X hours of no coordinator the plug turns off and shuts down (aka a safety feature)
b) There’s a firmware bug that if the coordinator isn’t reachable there’s a small chance of switch lockup.

Looking for ideas / hardware so this doesn’t occur again. What do you do?
