I have a sensor for my total energy consumption, which is a continuously increasing value. From this, a sensor for the energy cost is derived, which also increases. Now, HA complains: ‘is using state class ‘total_increasing’ which is impossible considering device class (‘monetary’).’
Why is this impossible? My costs are increasing—I’m sure of it!

I can’t say I agree with the definition of monetary as being a balance (I think it can also be a price or a bill). The solution is to remove the monetary device class and simply set a unit of measurement and an icon you like.

The problem is that when I use an utility_meter with a device_class monetary, the result is total_increasing and monetary and HA complains about that. So I cannot use monetary.
