Moving from Vera

I’ve been Vera user for years - even picked up design of the plugin for the RFX433 transceiver. My problem is that Ezlo has abandoned the Vera hub in favor of their own Ezlo hub. I have the new hub bat cannot easily do some simple things I counted with the Vera hub.
Before I jump into the use of Home Assisant I’m looking for a couple of things:

  1. Is there a list/repository of devices with full integration? How about a Honeywell T6 Pro zwave thermostat?
  2. Is it relatively simple to perform host OS operations? One of the things I do a lot is log events to individaul log files - So that I can review them as needed. One objective is to monitor the operation of my home HVAC system. With the Vera hub I simply add a bit of Lua code to a scene to log an event: os.execute(“echo $(date +‘%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S’) Oil Heat On>>/data/Heat_Cool.log”)

Hi and welcome to the other side Tom,
have they abandoned it? Well ok, no updates of it’s firmware but it is still working.
I’m an old Vera user as well.

The simple answer is YES! Do the jump!

My Vera is still connected to my HA for some zwave sensors I have not have the time or energy to change to HA. Try the Vera integration in HA. It works, so you should be fine. You can connect your Vera to HA.

Find it under “Integrations”, search for “Vera”

Related to your thermostat I found this thread by searching (I don’t have it myself):

You can probably find more threads for this device using the search engine (loupe, top right corner…)

  1. No (I haven’t found one) but it is extensive (much broader that Vera or Ezlo). Search on the forum for your device and you will likely find it.

  2. Yes you can but HA is different to how it’s done in Vera, In HA it is much simpler to achieve want your want. What to you exactly want to monitor from your HVAC? When the Oil Heater is turned on?

Edit (for “some” clarification):

  • I have the Vera hub connected to HA via the separate integration
  • I have Hue hub connected to HA via it’s integration
  • I have a z-wave dongle connected to HA for devices which I slowly move to HA when I have problems with them in Vera
  • I have a separate Zigbee dongle connected to HA for other devices that are not supported by the Hue Hub.
  • I have the RFXtrx433 receiver/transmitter connected to HA for those devices

Edit2: I realise that you are still not using HA

  1. Using a Zooz Zen17 I know when the compressor is energized for the heat pump or the oil burner is energized. I also have termperature sensors in the lower and upper heating ducts to measure the change in temp between input and output air. I have a temp sensor outside near the heat pump so I know what the environment temp is.
As you know in Vera I can run Lua code in actions or scenes to do some logging. I assume similar things can be done in HA?

The simple answer is yes. All of this can be done in HA.

Just jump, and use search on the forum. Many vera users here. But many migrated years ago… (including me)… it has been years I heard that name (vera) :grinning:
