The radio browser is probably an outage with them. The idle status is already fixed in the beta with stable to follow soon.
Iām having a problem with un-joining and joining Sonos speakers in an automation. Putting the below commands in an automation prevented the automation from completing. Here is the full automation and Iāve enclosed with a dashed line the parts I disabled to get it to work. Newest beta version of addon and integration. The log error is:
2025-07-10 08:42:36.028 ERROR (MainThread) [music_assistant.webserver] Error handling message: players/cmd/group_many: Command failed: Set of players to add to group (array playerIdsToAdd) contains invalid player ids
Do you see any issue with the syntax to un-join and joing? The automation is designed to turn on radio music when I come downstairs in the morning.
I would appreciate your help.

Bumping this. Anyone have a clue?

No, and regardless of how started you may feel, please donāt waste the time of everyone watching this thread by posting the same question a second time without any additional information.
I was just asking which MA entities could be used in automations and if I was using the wrong entity but I guess thatās not fair game in this forum.
Whilst the survey remains open we are approaching 1000 responses and wanted to address some of the comments that have been received.
One thing that was noted are some misunderstandings and we want to clarify those. Also, some things were wished for that are impossible so we want to set some expectations around that. Some users reported ISSUES, these need to be raised on GitHub or asked about on Discord. What is attached are SOME of the unedited comments and our response.
Lastly, before we get into it, thanks to all that provided positive words of encouragement and support. It is greatly appreciated.
You can find the PDF with our responses here
I am looking for a way to get the information on what is playing in Music Assistant, to use it as text on another card.
Song title and artist would be great to get as an entity or similar in order to present it on another card. Anyone has any ideas?
Its in the attributes of the player
Are you targeting the correct speaker IDās that are provided by Music Assistant to Home Assistant?
You cannot do this on the Home Assistant native speakers from other integrations.
My son started listening to podcasts recently. I would like to stream this via Music Assistant but this seems impossible.
I found Add support for Podcasts/audiobooks Ā· music-assistant Ā· Discussion #429 Ā· GitHub with no recent activity.
Is there some workaround possible? The podcast is Spotify exclusive.
Currently Spotify podcast support is not available but is on the to do list. There are many other podcast providers although I note you say the one you want is only on Spotify.
@fbloemhof until MA can incorporate podcast support, you can use Mini Media Player and link Spotify to it and listen to them that way. Send me a DM and I can explain how. My userID is the same on Discord if itās easier there for you.
@fbloemhof
The SpotifyPlus Card supports podcasts, as well as audiobooks. You can also search the Spotify catalog real time for podcasts and episodes (as well as all of the other media types).
More Info
Check out the SpotifyPlus Integration; it can do everything that the HA Spotify integration can do, supports Spotify Connect enabled devices (Bose, Sonos, Chromecast, Amazon Alexa, Denon, JBL, and more), and provides 95+ custom services that can be used in HA automations and scripts. Spotcast not required.
There is also a SpotifyPlus Card user-interface that allows you to control the player, manage your Spotify favorites, as well as search the Spotify catalog. You have to install the SpotifyPlus integration first though, and get it configured before you can use the SpotifyPlus Card.
Both are easily installed via HACS.
Hope it helps!
@OzGav I have successfully added my Logitech Squeezebox radio to HA via SlimProto (Squeezebox players). It shows as an entity in HA and I can play internet radio by browsing media>>Radio browser. I also setup Music Assistant but when I try go to Add Player Provider and select SlimProto (Squeezebox players)>>Save, it throws an error āUnable to start the SlimProto server - is one of the required TCP ports already taken ?ā. Is it because Squeezebox connected HA SlimProto (Squeezebox players) integration and that is separate from SlimProto (Squeezebox players) within MA? I tried deleted HA SlimProto (Squeezebox players) and did full HA reboot and tried to add squeezebox into MA but Iām getting the same error of āUnable to start the SlimProto serverā¦ā. What am I missing here? Help me please.
Yes you canāt have the HA Slimproto Integration running as well. That is covered in the docs.
If it still isnāt working and the message remains that one of the required ports is taken then you need to look at whatever other services you have running that may have taken over a port.
This is an interesting option. I think it is useful for more then only me to set this up so no dm.
Do I understand it correctly that I create some sort of Spotify player (using the Spotify integration I guess?), link that to the Mini Media Player and use that to stream to the MA player(s)?
This, and also the SpotifyPlus integration that @thlucas mentions, requires an Spotify developer account.
Soā¦I recently made a post on the SpotifyPlus topic regarding itās use and a problem Iām having. After some conversation back and forth (and some more searching) I think my next step is to repost this here since it appears the problem may be originating from the Music Assistant integration instead. Either way (if it is or not), this is where it is currently pointing me tooā¦
The following is a recap of the conversationā¦
So Iāve been using the Spotify integration for a while now. For the most part, everything works as expected. There is one problem though that continues.
My setup:
- Home Assistant OS on a Raspberry Pi 5
- āESP32-A1S V2.2 Audio Kitā with ESPHome which creates a media player in home assistant
- SpotifyPlus HACS/Integration
- Music Assistant Server Add-On
Once I added the SpotifyPlus integration (and linked it to my Spotify account), all of the devices listed in the Music Assistant view showed up as devices I can play to in the Spotify App. According to the author of the SpotifyPlus integration, he believes that means Spotify is playing through Music Assistant and Music Assistant is playing to my ESPHome media player device. Andā¦the SpotifyPlus integration is just controlling the Spotify web API and not the actual data stream. Henceā¦what has now led me here to this post.
The Problem:
Anytime I reference āspeakersā here, I am referring to the speakers connected to the ESPHome media player device described above. The speakers are used for announcements (via piper TTS), media, musicā¦basically anything in Home Assistant that can use a media player as output.
The short story is, at some point (and for some reason), I go to play from Spotify to my speakers and everything appears like it is working. The Spotify app shows it is connected to the ESPHome device, the play progress shows it is playing, Home Assistant shows it is playingā¦but, no sound is coming out. If I switch the Spotify device to my phone (for example), the phone begins playing, switch it back and again no sound but everything looks like it is playing. If I stop Spotify and then go into Media or Music Assistant and choose a local music file, the speakers play it no problem. Go back to Spotify and no sound.
Spotify seems to work for long periods of time until the speakers are used for something else (like an announcement). It āseemsā thatās when this happens (āseemsā because it could just be entirely unrelated). I should specify though that there is a time gap between the announcement playing and then me going to play something on Spotify when it decides not to work (so not always immediately after).
Once this happens there appears to be only 1 ātemporaryā fix. Even a restart doesnāt fix the problem. I can do 10 restarts and nothing. Butā¦1 single reboot and it immediately fixes the problem 100% of the time. Once rebooted, I can then go back to playing SpotifyPlus through the speakers like nothing was wrong for as long as I want until the above process repeats. That tells me whatever is preventing SpotifyPlus from playing doesnāt get released just from restarting Home Assistant and requires the hardware itself to get resetā¦at least thatās what I think it means. Of course Iām not sure why internal Hardware to the Pi should have any effect on external hardware (via the ESP32 device)ā¦but, it does appear to be this way.
If anyone has any ideas to try, any settings you want me to tell you aboutā¦or ?? let me know and I will try them (or provide the information you are asking about). Thanks
Ohā¦there is one more thing I never mentioned and could be very important. Once Spotify no longer produces sound output I mentioned I could still play a local music file. Butā¦what I forgot to mention is it sounds staticky (if that makes sense). Normally I get crisp, clear audio. But once this problem surfaces, playback of anything that I can still play sounds badā¦I mean obviously bad (like it is still trying to play Spotify in the background even though the music file is playing??). I also didnāt mention that looking through the logs doesnāt appear to show anything wrong. No errors in any of the pathways.
The MA players are not designed to be streamed to by a third party application.
I have ui_minimalist that I use extensively on a cell phone - and also I have music assistant running on the same HAOS instance. Is there a way to access music assistant on a ui_minimalist dasboard? I can do it on my phone but I am the HAOS admin and have everything available to me. Other people on my network onlyu have access to the ui_minimalist dashboard. Maybe there is a way to give those users only access to ui_minimalist AND the Music Assistant dashboard only?
Update:
Update: I just stuck this into home.yaml - then to get back to my home page after clickting this to open Music Assistant, I just would hit the back button -
Itās not elegant, but it works. PLease let me know if anyone finds anything that is a little more polished!
