Music Assistant 2.0: Your Music, Your Players

Which Dashboard are you referring to?

I still have access to my HA sidebar for returning to normal HA Dashboards.

For the main Music Assistant page you just use the ‘Home’ button on the far left at the bottom of the UI.

I think he is meaning back to a lovelace dashboard of his choice.

Yes the side bar can get you back but I think an option to:

  • Have music assistant open full screen (kiosk mode) without the sidebar in view and;
  • A menu pop-up on the home button to take you back to a lovelace dashboard of your choice would be a good improvement.

The sidebar always trips my partner up especially when on mobile.
On larger screens (especially vertical) having the sidebar in view takes away from the self contained Music Assistant experience.

Does Music Assistant Spotfy Connect on Voice PE support the new Spotify lossless?
My Chromecast Audios do not support lossless with spotify connect, so this may be the final push to move to (more Voice PEs and) Music Assistant

Recently added MA to my Home Assistant build and im really enjoying it. I have added a PLEX provider and play on SONOS players. Its working well despite the queue on MA not updating the queue on SONOS and viceversa.

Hoping someone can help me with this though - I am able to toggle the AlbumArtist filter on the Artist view so i dont get lots of unwanted artists from compilations showing up. But on the Home Screen, the Random Artists list keeps showing them - it does not use the AlbumArtist filter. Can this be toggled for the Home Screen like it can for the Artists screen?

We haven’t tried Spotify lossless at all yet. Haven’t heard any user feedback about success or failure either…

No it cannot. The UI is still a work in progress. We are getting some more help from the OHF soon though…

Music Assistant is great as it integrates well into Home Assistant. Here are some benefits I’ve seen that i dont think you can get anywhere else:

  • play to Airplay 1 speakers that are no longer supported by Spotify, and was never supported by Deezer
  • remote control for playback and volume from my Pixel watch
  • one press play of radio stations from buttons on my Android home screen
  • search across my local media and streaming services

Although the privacy and quality issue I raised is a consideration here for the last item above - I’d often prefer to listen to my local files even if the bit rate is detected as lower than the streaming one - sometimes my local copy is a different version than the streaming version and I prefer it for other reasons.

IMHO to preserve my privacy means I should be able to manage this feature - only search for online versions when i search - when i select to play a local file don’t second guess me.

I can see how the points you listed are super beneficial when running Android devices. With iOS devices (and watchOS) the first two points just work no matter the music source.

My most important criteria lately when adding or changing anything in my HA setup is to avoid any “house of cards” type setups. I’m really trying to eliminate any situations where a particular feature can come crashing down easily by having excessive failure points.

If it is a recognised different version (comprehensive tagging is needed) then MA won’t pick some other random version to play.

You’ve obviously not experienced censored edits on streaming services.

Hello,
Just one question with this addon. Why I can’t select next track on music assistant. When I launch my music by voice on my Nest Hub, it launches YouTube Music (without going through Music Assistant). I have the player and the next/previous buttons, but when I select them, I get:

Failure to execute the media_player/media_next_track action. This action is (currently) unavailable for this source.

The buttons are here

It’s likely because music assistant isn’t managing the queue in that case, so it doesn’t know what track comes next. The skip button usually only works when music assistant itself is playing and holding the queue.

I’ve run into this in different setups since I use multiple sources. My fix is a script that checks which source is active and then skips through that source’s media player - or uses a custom method depending on the integration.

That’s what I did, but I was wondering if there was an easier way. Thank you for your reply.

So, after having another look at the official blueprints, I was wondering about this line in the LLM enhanced automation blueprint

“Select an LLM conversation agent to be used with the automation. The blueprint is intended to be used with an LLM conversation agent without control of the house.”

I use OpenAI, but it’s used in my main Assist pipeline so has control of the house. Does that mean I need to set up a different LLM, and why?

Thanks.

No, it works fine for me with control of the house enabled.

I recently added a second Spotify account but since then I frequently need to re-authenticate both. Is this an issue caused by not using a personal ClientID?

MA 2.6 has been released to make way for 2.7 which is going to be huge!

Note Alexa support is for experts and is EXPERIMENTAL don’t raise issues for it. Ask your questions here < Support for Alexa Media Player · music-assistant · Discussion #431 · GitHub>

@OzGav looks like the release notes is missing ”Player Providers” so reading the release notes for 2.6.0 is reads as if Yamaha MusicCast and Alexa are both Music Providers instead of Player Providers because not listed under a ”Player Providers” catagory.

Release notes for Music Assistent 2.6.0 should probably be changed to below and title of MusicCast player provider changed adding ”player” to in order to clearify this further so not confused as a MusicCast music provider (i.e. Music Assistant does not act as a MusicCast reciever)?
