Total NOOB question - so please be kind! Why when I pick a song/track to play MA only plays a short sampling of the track and then goes on to play the next track. Admittedly, I currently don’t subscribe to any streaming services.

They are likely your best resource.

So what source are you playing. Most streamers will indeed only give you 5 seconds of audio, so dont blame Music assistant 
Try local mp3 audio, you should be good to go
