Music Assistant simply refuses to detect local Google Cast devices

I am at my wit’s end. I got a couple of Music Assistant Providers set up, but the only players it can see are my chrome browsers.

Other clients like my Android players (spotify, YT music, tidal, others) instantly see all my Google Cast devices. I have a whole bunch of Google Nest speakers in my home. Music Assistant sees none.

I have done what I can to ensure mDNS is active on all relevant networks (I use Unifi) but I doubt that is the problem - the fact that all my other audio clients comfortably detect all my Cast devices suggest to me that this is a Music Assistant issue.

Can anyone suggest something I can try to get Home Assistant to see my Google Cast devices??

You have enabled the google cast player provider in MA?

Might be worth asking on the MA discord channel as you may find the answer there.

Oh my goodness. So a “Player” can be a “Provider”? Thank you. This works. After trawling documentation for two days I finally got it working.

Not quite. The player have providers. If all the available providers were ebabled by default MA would take a lot more resources.
