The device failed to do the latest update to the update that was released today. So I asked it to restart. I expect that to work and then I would try the update again but it never booted up again.
So I manually power cycle it and it still never gave me any website to connect to on the standard port.
I do nigjly backup of the whole system to good and locally as well as to nabu because i am a paid home assistant user.
But I don’t know the best process to do a reset and restore. Can someone please explain what the best way to do this on a home assistant green.
Hopefully someone can tell me what I should do so when I get out of bed in 8 hours I will know what to do Saturday morning.
Thanks in advance for this great community of users.
Reset as per the docs, then on the onboarding page restore your backup.
Be aware that if you backed up a version that would not allow an update chances are the update will fail again, if it does use developer tools to check the configuration first.
So I thought I should come back now that everything is restored.
The fail appears to have been when I connected a 1TB external drive to my HA Green via USB. I moved all the data to it and made that my HA more than two years ago. Just to ensure space would never been an issue and I could have LOADS of local backups.
Well it looks like that drive failed. I can’t read it on any mac or PC but I don’t know for sure I ever could read it on a mac or PC before because I never tried.
Anyway doing the restore to the local 32GB drive worked and I was low on space but I setup the number of local backups to be saved to be lower and now I have about 11GB free.
I had to use the micros SD restore method for my unit but it all worked. It took time to get everything back 100% but everything is fine again now.
I do wish the Greene had a version with a 1TB internal drive.
Are you connecting via USB? If so it could be the cable. You will need to find a program to read Linux discs on windows, not sure if macs can read them or not.
